A 2011 Pentaward for Aqua Reflections

In Spirit Design has again been recognized by the Pentawards, the first global awards competition devoted entirely to recognizing excellence in packaging design, with a Bronze Award for its design of the Danone AQUA Reflections water bottle in Indonesia. The Reflections design was a collaboration with Brandimage Desgrippes & Laga in Asia, with In Spirit creating the bottle shape, and Brandimage creating the product name and graphical packaging design. Renowned Indonesian fashion designer Sebastian Gunawan worked with Brandimage and In Spirit to create the dynamic rattan pattern featured on the bottle.

Aqua (Danone Group) is a leading water brand in Indonesia, where the brand has the highest sales volume in the bottled water category. As the pioneer in its category since it was founded in 1973, Aqua has always been part of the healthy lifestyle of Indonesian communities.

Recently Aqua’s team decided the brand needed to be represented in premium segments, and thus the decision to create a new brand, in a new bottle. The design had to be unique, modern, distinguished, with a clear Indonesian identity, and at the same time had to transmit the brand’s values: A natural and pure water that comes from rigorously selected and protected water springs, sourced from in Indonesia’s own mountain springs, thus ensuring that every drop of Aqua maintains all the goodness of naturally balanced minerals.

As a result, Aqua Reflections was born, “A truly flawless reflection of your well-balanced life”.

Brandimage Asia, a key design partner of Danone Group in Indonesia, asked In Spirit Design to collaborate with the new creation. The two agencies have worked together frequently, creating new brands in Korea, China, and Hong Kong. Sebastian Gunawan was selected to “dress” the bottle, giving the brand strong local relevance and flavor. Given the context, In Spirit aimed for a pure and minimalist design, with smooth surfaces that would be later transformed into Gunawan’s canvas.
